NANCY CLADEL, PRESIDENT, is one of the original incorporators of The Manada Conservancy, and served as Vice-President since its inception through 2007. Nancy is a Research Support Associate in the Jake Gittlen Cancer Institute at the MS Hershey Medical Center. She served on the East Hanover Township Environmental Advisory Council for 11 years as a member and 1 year as chair. She is an enthusiastic bird-watcher and has interests in natural history, biodiversity, native plants and farmland preservation. She lives with her husband, Chuck, in an historic home in East Hanover Township. They have two grown children and are enjoying granddaughter Eloisa. Nancy developed and continues to oversee our annual Native Plant sale, our main fund-raiser now in its eighth year, and serves on the Fund-raising Committee and Preservation Committee. Nancy and Chuck Cladel are Partners in Preservation.
VIC ROHRER, VICE PRESIDENT, is a founding member of the Conservancy and has been a Board member since its inception. He is a physician and was a staff and faculty member at the M. S. Hershey Medical Center for 27 years where he served as Chief of the Medical Staff and Associate Dean for Clinical affairs from 1982 to 1993. He is a past member of the East Hanover Township, Lebanon County, Planning Commission, and was the Lebanon County Landowner Conservationist of the Year in 1999. Vic is a member of the PA Forest Stewardship Program and a member of the Dauphin Co. Woodland Owners Association. He and his wife, Jean, live in Conewago Township. They have four grown children. Vic serves on the Administration Committee and the Preservation Committee of the conservancy. Chuck and Jean are Partners in Preservation.
SUZANNE DONOVAN, SECRETARY, is one of the original incorporators of The Manada Conservancy, using her last year's compensation as East Hanover Township Supervisor to provide seed money to start the Conservancy. She served as Treasurer until 2000. In addition to serving as a Township Supervisor, she served on the East Hanover Township Planning Commission. Suzanne graduated from Bucknell University. Her interests include oil painting, historic and farmland preservation, raising chickens, and paying college tuitions. She lives in East Hanover Township with her husband Jeff. They have four children, Luke, Molly, Jean, and Michael. Suzanne is Board Secretary and serves on the Administration Committee and the Fund-raising Committee.
RICHARD WILLIAMS, TREASURER, joined the Board in 2005. He is retired from the Central Dauphin School District where he taught senior high Social Studies for thirty years. During much of that time he also coached Cross Country and Track and Field at C.D. East Senior High and served as advisor/representative to various student and faculty organizations. After retiring in 1998 he soon became involved with Hershey Gardens and held the position of Coordinator of the Butterfly House through the 2003 season. He is a member of numerous conservation oriented organizations including The Nature Conservancy, Sierra Club, and the PA Audubon Society. He has been the compiler for PA Society for Ornithology's “Pennsylvania Birds” for Dauphin Co. since 1992 and for Snyder Co. since 2003. He and his wife, Patricia, are currently very active in the PA Breeding Bird Atlas Project working blocks in six different counties. Aside from birding other leisure activities include wood carving, gardening, travel, and spending time at his “cabin” in Snyder Co. He and his wife have resided in the Greenbriar Development in South Hanover Twp. since 1976. Dick Chairs Manada’s Finance Committee and serves on the Education Committee.
GREG BURGDORF has been Board Member of TMC since 2003. He is a Committee member and Chaplain of Boy Scout Troop 66. He is a former member of the East Hanover EAC and is active in the Canoe Club of Harrisburg. Greg is a professional geologist, and is a Senior Hydrogeologist / Project Manager with URS Corporation in Harrisburg. He is a graduate of Miami University and received his Masters Degree at Wright State University in Ohio. Greg’s interests include bird-watching, canoeing, hiking, and church activities. He and his wife Paulina have three children and live in Hummelstown. Greg serves on the Preservation Committee.
CRAIG CASSEL is a native of South Hanover Township where he was born and raised on the family’s thoroughbred racehorse farm (Cassel’s Brookside Stables). Craig is a 1982 graduate of Lower Dauphin (LD) High School and a 1986 graduate of Franklin and Marshall College. He has worked as a teacher at LD for the past 20 years while coaching wrestling and cross country. He has two beautiful children, Elliot (11) and Avery (9) and a lovely wife Becky. The family loves to vacation and can often be found on extended bicycle tours or at their cabin in Tioga County, PA. Craig loves gardening, hunting, fishing, camping and any other activity which allows him to enjoy the outdoors. He is a member of Adventure Bicycling Club, WXPN, WITF, and the All Saints Church Vestry. Just recently, Craig and his brother have established Cassel Vineyards of Hershey and look forward to continuing their family’s five-generation history of working and preserving the family farm.
CHUCK CLADEL is a founding Board member. He is the Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at the Holy Spirit Hospital and maintains a private pediatric psychiatric practice. Chuck is a graduate of the Univ. of Rochester and Upstate Medical Center, and did his specialty training at Indiana Univ. Medical Center and The Univ. of Michigan Medical Center, as well as serving in the USAF in Alaska. He lives with wife, Nancy, in an historic home in East Hanover Township. They have two grown children and are enjoying granddaughter Eloisa. Chuck’s interests include photography, computers, and land preservation. Chuck chairs the Acquisition Sub-committee of the Preservation Committee. He oversees the donation process and is responsible for the study, monitoring and stewardship of all of our preserved properties, as well as providing photographs of many of our events. Chuck and Nancy Cladel are Partners in Preservation.
JOHN CONNER, is one of the original 1996 incorporators of The Manada Conservancy, and served as The Manada Conservancy President since its inception through 2007. John is a former Board Member and former Treasurer of the Pennsylvania Land Trust Association. He is a former member of the East Hanover EAC and was active in efforts to update the Zoning there. He has been employed by the Internal Revenue Service since his graduation from the University of Pittsburgh in 1975. Along with land preservation, John’s interests include organic gardening and his golden retrievers. John lives with his wife, Ruth Ann, in East Hanover Township. John serves on Preservation Committee.
TRACY DEVENYI joined the board of TMC in 2010. She is a graduate of Lebanon Valley College with a degree in Psychology. She and her husband, Attila live in Derry Township and have been married for 27 years. They have 3 children, Ryan, 23, Lindsey, 21, and Dylan, 14. Tracy has been a "stay-at-home mom" for 23 years during which time she has volunteered for various organizations including the Salvation Army, the Manada Conservancy, the Hershey Museum, and most recently, the Derry Environmental Action Committee. Her interests include native plant gardening, cooking, biking, and reading.
JENNIFER HINE is a graduate of Kutztown University with a B.S. in Environmental Science/Biology and dual minor in Geography and Psychology. Jennifer began at The Manada Conservancy as a summer preservation intern in 2008. She serves on the Conservancy’s Education Committee. She is employed as a drinking water chemist at Analytical Laboratory Services, Inc. Along with conservation, Jennifer’s interests include hiking, trips to the beach, and spending time with her German shepherd puppy.
PAM HOLMES joined the Manada Board in 2008. Pam has a professional background in nursing and served as research nurse and clinical study coordinator in the Dept of Surgery at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center. She is a former Lebanon County Master Gardener with an interest in native plantings for the home garden. She has participated in childhood education organization and programs. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Hershey Museum and as a member of the Hershey Gardens Advisory Board. She co-chaired the Committee which created the Butterfly House, and was President of the Advisory Board which planned and opened the Children's Garden. She was a charter member of the Bowman Trust Board in Hershey. Pam’s interests include local farmland preservation, managing invasive species and restoring habitat. Pam serves on the Preservation Committee.
MARY HOUTS has served on the Manada Conservancy Board since 2000. She is a Board member of The Hershey Gardens, researches and writes about local history, and is a Penn State Master Gardener. She recently retired from her position as Associate Director and Senior Curator of Education for the Hershey Museum. She is a graduate of Harvard University, and holds a Masters Degree in Conservation of Natural Resources from the University of Michigan. Mary’s interests include history, education and gardening. She lives in South Hanover Township with her husband Peter (who gives generously to us of his expertise in graphic work.) Mary chairs the Conservancy Education Committee and is responsible for our programs.
RICH ZAINO is one of the original incorporators of the Conservancy and has been a Board member since its inception. He is Professor of Pathology at the MS Hershey Medical Center, is a medical author and editor, and is active in a number of medical societies. He graduated from Holy Cross College in 1971 and Duke Medical School in 1975. He has been active in the Audubon Society, and his interests include bird-watching, natural history, archeology and photography. Rich lives in East Hanover Township with his wife, Sally. They have three grown daughters. Rich serves on the Preservation Committee.
SALLY ZAINO, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (Part-time), is one of the original incorporators and Board members of The Manada Conservancy and served as secretary from its inception until 2004. She chaired the East Hanover Township Environmental Advisory Council for 10 years, is a former East Hanover Township Supervisor and Planning Commission member, and serves on the Board of the Horse-Shoe Trail Club. She works at home as a part-time writer and editor. Sally graduated from Duke University in 1974. Her interests include land use planning, biodiversity, and poetry. She lives in East Hanover Township with her husband, Rich. They have three grown daughters. Prior to assuming the position of Executive Director of The Manada Conservancy, Sally chaired the Preservation Committee and served as the Internal Operations Director for the Conservancy.
RICHELLE DOURTE, ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, joined the Manada team in 2010 after leaving a corporate position in order to respond to a calling in conservation. Richelle also works as a substitute teacher and jewelry artist. She is a graduate of Messiah College with a degree in Environmental Science. She is a member of PennFuture, PA Association of Environmental Professionals and the National Audubon Society. Richelle is also currently finishing her requirements to become a certified naturalist. She and her husband Josh enjoy gardening, raising chickens and furniture restoration. Her other interests include walks in the woods, herping, local food, and metalworking.
