Swatara Creek Collaborative

Manada Conservancy, in partnership with Swatara Watershed Association, is excited to announce the Swatara Creek Collaborative, a regional partnership dedicated to protecting land, preserving clean water, and strengthening the natural landscapes that define our communities.

The Collaborative brings together conservation organizations, municipalities, and local residents who share a commitment to protecting the health of the Swatara Creek watershed. Through coordinated conservation efforts, the Collaborative helps restore habitat, protect water quality, and preserve open space throughout the region.

Why the Swatara Creek Matters

The Swatara Creek watershed spans approximately 571 of square miles across central Pennsylvania before flowing into the Susquehanna River and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay.

This watershed provides important benefits to both people and wildlife, including:

  • Clean drinking water for surrounding communities

  • Habitat for native plants and wildlife

  • Recreational opportunities such as paddling, fishing, and hiking

  • Natural flood protection and water filtration

Protecting the watershed helps ensure these resources remain healthy and accessible for generations to come.

Featured Event: Swatara Sojourn

Join us on Saturday, May 2nd as we kick off the collaboration through participation in Swatara Watershed Association’s annual Swatara Sojourn.

This guided paddling event invites participants to experience the beauty of the Swatara Creek while learning about watershed conservation. During the Sojourn, community members paddle a section of the creek, participate in cleanup efforts, and hear from environmental speakers about the importance of protecting local waterways.

The Sojourn is a unique opportunity for residents, families, and outdoor enthusiasts to connect with the creek and become part of its stewardship.
